Learn the method behind the charts

How aperature works, what the numbers mean, and how to pull data into your own stack.

Quickstart

1

Screen for an idea

Use the screener to filter the universe by valuation, quality, and momentum factors.

2

Backtest it honestly

Push the screen into the backtester. Point-in-time data means no lookahead bias — the past you test is the past you could have traded.

3

Size it in the Lab

Build the allocation in the Allocation Lab, check the efficient frontier, and set rebalance alerts.

Methodology

Every figure on this site is produced the same way, so results are comparable across screens, strategies, and time periods.

Point-in-time data. Fundamentals are timestamped to their publication date, never their reporting period. A Q3 earnings beat on November 2nd is not knowable on October 31st.

Survivorship-bias-free universe. Delisted and acquired companies remain in historical universes. Screens run in 2008 see Lehman Brothers.

Monthly rebalancing. Portfolios rebalance to target weights at month-end close. Transaction costs default to 5 bps per trade with 10 bps slippage, adjustable per run.

Risk metrics. Sharpe ratios use the 3-month T-bill as the risk-free rate. Drawdowns are computed on total-return series, dividends reinvested.

API

Team plans get REST access to screens, backtests, and factor data. Authenticate with a bearer token from your workspace settings.

About

aperature Labs builds portfolio intelligence for investors who want evidence before allocation. We're a small team of engineers and former quants who got tired of backtests that couldn't be trusted — so we built the one we wanted to use.
